If the book donor already has a book, then instead of purchasing a new one, the same may be floated after reading.
The book donors, joining this scheme have to read the book in one month and have to float it to another friend, so that he may also read the book.
All these book friends who receive the floated book, have to read it in maximum period of one month. After one month they have to give to the “other” book friends for reading. Thus, a single book will travel for 12 months through 12 different book friends.
The last book friend, will donate this book as a gift from the original book donor to any public library.
Every book donor will select eleven such book friends and give them the said book to read.
Every book donor will inform the “Vanche Gujarat Campaign” about the book floated by him or upload it on the website.
Book may be in any language or on any subject and may be of any size.
It is also not necessary that the book friends must be living in Gujarat. He/She may be living in any part of the world but it is desirable that the book should come to Gujarat at the end so that we can document it.
Care must be taken in selecting book friend. He/ She must be interested in reading, otherwise the book may get drowned.
Reading and floating of varieties of books including ancient/modern books are welcome.
This project will run till 30th April 2011 as a Campaign. After that also it can be continued.
A person may be financially sound to donate or to float many books for floating a book under this scheme. However, reading of the book by the original donor is of paramount importance and precondition to float book.
It is desirable to have meeting so as to review the programme and to find new book friends and try to make other arrangements for its success.
One person can float more than one book but he/she must have read all the books. Books shall be floated only after reading it.
For the success of the project all persons including Government officials, students, teachers, doctors, advocates, engineers, architects, builders, housewives, farmers, labourers, and employees shall organize programs in their organizations so that everybody reads and also makes others read. Be vigilant on the person whom you give a book or through whom the book is floated. Make sure that everybody reads the book and continues floating it. Try to keep in contact through mail, phone and ensure that book reaches to the library after travelling through twelve readers. Thus read and make your friends read.
This campaign may end as a program after twelve months, but the aim is to create many book friends through book donors. The intentions of making this travel of books a continuous process is to make Gujarat “The reading capital of India”.
